well, i took alaina in for her visit to the surgeon... her surgery is scheduled for july 11th. the doctor said that what she had was called a "thyroglossal cyst" and they are going to make an incision over the cyst, remove it and then they are going to also remove what they call a "hyoid bone" from her neck. aparrently this bone is the only bone in the body that is not attached to any other bones. its supported by muscles in the neck and it aparently supports the tongue muscle. i dont really know why they want to take the hyoid bone out, they really didnt say why. the only thing i could think of is that maybe if she were to keep it the cyst might grow back. i asked the doctor if removing it would cause any problems with her voice or being able to talk and he assured me that taking it out wouldnt do anything. its almost like the appendix.. you dont absolutely need it.. i dunno. im still scared... i just really want july to be over with.

my youngest daughter alaina will be turning 2 on july 5th and ive been running around nervous and scared for whats to come. A few months ago i noticed that she had a lump in the middle of her throat. At the time i just thought that maybe she had an oversized voice box but then a while later i decided to feel it and it didnt feel normal...it moved around and it was almost squishy like. So we took her into the doctors and he said to watch it for a month and if it didnt go away we'd have to bring her back in. A month went by and no change!! didnt go away and luckilly it didnt get any bigger . we brought her back in 2 weeks ago and the doctor said it appears its possibly attatched to the back of her tongue or to the roots of her lymphnodes.. possibly her lymphnodes are draining and theres blockage. so now she has to see a pediatric surgeon this week and have the thing removed... im going absolutly crazy over here. just to think my lil baby is going under for surgery...
